Lauro Figueiredo

Senior Software Engineer · 8+ years of experience · Belo Horizonte, Brazil

I'm a self-taught developer who has been building for the web since I was a kid, and professionally for over 8 years. My background is in JavaScript and TypeScript, across front-end and back-end, and I've shipped to high-traffic sites, banks and e-commerce.

I'm a Claude Certified Architect and I work with AI every day. I consider it a tool, not a replacement for judgment: years of experience are what let me tell a good result from one that only looks good.

Accessibility is a key priority in my work. I aim to create web experiences that are accessible to all, underlining the importance of inclusive design.

My main goal is always to provide the best user experience, emphasizing code quality and continuous improvement.

Experience

Senior Software Engineer at Avenue Code

Belo Horizonte, Brazil (Remote)

As a consultant at Avenue Code, I have worked in two major client engagements, always focused on high-traffic websites where performance, accessibility, SEO and tracking matter.

Current client: big tech

As a senior front-end specialist, I work on an internal React component library that integrates with Adobe Experience Manager to deliver content for product and marketing pages, some of the most visited on the web. My work includes:

  • Turning meticulously crafted designs into meticulously built React components;
  • Maintaining the component library as a whole: dependency updates, security issues, documentation and avoiding breaking changes;
  • Supporting the internal pages framework built on top of NextJS and the AEM integration;
  • Maintaining the Storybook instance used by designers and other teams;
  • Writing comprehensive tests for every component: unit, interaction and visual regression tests.

Previous client: U.S. retail e-commerce

I worked on the main store website, following the user journey from the home page to the product page.

  • Took part in the migration from a legacy Kraken/DustJS codebase to a NextJS monorepo, building page layouts and core functionality from the ground up, with 100% unit test coverage and pixel-perfect implementations of Figma designs;
  • Led two squads technically (4 front-end devs, 3 back-end devs, 2 AEM specialists) to deliver Adobe Experience Manager as the headless CMS, letting marketing publish fully dynamic pages without developers;
  • Later led the migration from AEM to Contentstack as a developer-friendly alternative, building a shared GraphQL library, a NestJS GraphQL API, a custom Contentstack app and a new component library, and migrating 200+ marketing pages with a custom script;
  • Maintained Scala APIs backed by MongoDB, and worked with Oracle ATG Web Commerce;
  • Implemented structured data, Core Web Vitals improvements, accessibility fixes (ADA), and Google Analytics tracking, including the UA to GA4 migration;
  • Set up monitoring and alerts with Sumologic and Grafana, and load tested APIs with Gatling ahead of the holiday season;
  • Helped migrate applications from on-prem to Google Cloud, creating pipelines with GitHub Actions and Jenkins;
  • Worked with Optimizely A/B tests and documented how to run them for the non-technical Marketing Operations team;
  • Took part in change management, incident response and root cause analysis documents.

Beyond the code

  • Mentored more than 20 people, from interns to consultants, through Avenue Code's Buddy leadership program;
  • Led technical interviews, both internally and for clients.

Full Stack Engineer at Raro Labs (Banco BMG)

Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Working as an allocated consultant at Banco BMG (a large Brazilian bank), I built internal and client-facing systems with Angular and .NET Core, alongside bank employees and other contractors. My work included:

  • Building dozens of modules of a corporate-client back office (Angular 8 to 11) and its .NET Core 2.1 integration layer, working closely with the product owner and the users;
  • Creating a digital onboarding process to replace paper registrations for corporate clients, with dynamic forms stored in MongoDB, digital signing, SMS 2FA and status tracking. It was client-facing and enabled significant cost cuts;
  • Being the sole developer of a middleware API, built with Clean Architecture/DDD and documented with Swagger, that lets every bank system, including the mobile app, send documents for signing through DocuSign. It is still in use;
  • Introducing automated testing (Karma/Jasmine, XUnit) to codebases that had none;
  • Taking part in the migration from SQL Server to Oracle;
  • Integrating with internal systems and data brokers through REST and SOAP, and generating ready-to-sign PDF documents;
  • Managing builds and releases with Azure Pipelines, and documenting APIs and development practices.

Full Stack Developer at Vamos Parcelar

Belo Horizonte, Brazil

My first professional role, at a startup that let people pay car fines, taxes and government fees in installments by credit card. I started as a web designer/developer building WordPress sites, then became a front-end developer and later a full stack developer. My work included:

  • Designing and developing the SEO-focused landing page with Handlebars, Sass (BEM), vanilla JavaScript and Gulp;
  • Building features for the client-facing and back office Angular applications, and becoming the guardian of the Angular codebase;
  • Developing Java 8 (Spring Boot) APIs with PostgreSQL, including one that communicated with physical payment totems and a pinpad;
  • Integrating with REST and SOAP government APIs and the Cielo payments API;
  • Creating a Chart.js dashboard for back office users and a Node.js reporting service;
  • Deploying Docker containers to AWS;
  • Advocating for unit tests on critical business logic, which allowed safe refactoring.
